Walk mode & the newest planning tools

Drop to eye height and walk your build before you cut anything, then take it to the workshop with the Build Pack, Weighbridge report, packed gear, and the live calculators panel.

Walk your build

Walk mode puts you inside the van at eye height (1.65 m) instead of orbiting it — the closest thing to standing in the finished conversion before a single cut is made. Enter it from the View segmented switch in the toolbar or by pressing W; you spawn on the ground just in front of the open sliding door, facing in.

WASD or the arrow keys move you, Shift runs, and dragging looks around — there's no pointer lock, so a click-drag anywhere in the scene turns the camera. Interior walls block you like they would in real life (including the wall's inward lean), and door apertures only let you through while the door is open.

  1. Press W (or select Walk in the View switch).
  2. Move with WASD/arrows, hold Shift to run, drag to look around.
  3. Watch the headroom chip in the shortcut bar as you cross the van — it turns amber under 1.85 m and red under 1.70 m, accounting for your shell build-up and anything mounted overhead.
  4. Press Esc, or click Walk again in the toolbar, to exit back to the 3D orbit camera.
Tips
  • Furniture pushes you back gently rather than letting you clip through it — a capsule collision check runs against every placed item.
  • Camera auto-hide pauses while you walk: body panels and the shell build-up stay visible so the walls read correctly from inside.
  • Walk mode is mutually exclusive with photo mode, top view, measure, and routing — entering one exits whichever you were in.

Take it to the workshop

Once the layout is solid, the Build Sheet's export grid turns it into paper: Build Pack is the whole build as one printed document — cover, plan sheets, cut list, priced shopping list, power summary, heaviest-first weight budget — and the Weighbridge report is a printable payload and axle-load summary with fill-in blanks for the real plate values, built for the day you actually weigh the van. Both sit alongside the 1:20 plan sheets and the 1:1 wall template. Full detail on all six exports is in The Build Sheet article.

Packed gear and the calculators panel

Loadout (in the Build Sheet) is a weight-only packing list — clothes, food, tools, and more — counted in your payload bar without ever touching cost or the cut list, replacing a guessed personal-weight reserve with what you're actually planning to carry.

The calculators panel (open it from the command palette, ⌘K, or search "calculators") gives six live readings fed straight from your layout: EN 721 ventilation, water autonomy, gas locker sizing, the EN 1646-2 payload reserve, bed sit-up vs. garage height, and cable gauge for your longest routed run — the same math behind the public /tools pages, but already wired to your van.

Tip
  • Change the layout and every one of these numbers — Build Sheet, calculators, walk-mode headroom — updates together. There's nothing to keep in sync by hand.
