How much does AI van planning cost? VanPlot's credits explained

· 5 min read · Updated

In VanPlot, one AI credit is about $0.01 of the real AI cost of your request, debited from what the reply actually used and rounded up. A question or small change costs 1–3 credits, Design my van 5–15, a photo render 6. Credits come in one-time packs that never expire, and bigger packs carry a volume bonus. The planner itself stays a one-time licence.

AI features cost real money every time they run. The planner doesn't: VanPlot is sold as a one-time lifetime licence, on purpose — a van build is a project of months — and that doesn't change. VanPlot AI, the AI assistant, is different. Every reply is paid to an AI provider, so it is priced the way AI tools across the industry are: in credits.

So the assistant and renders run on credits that map to what they actually cost me. This post lays out the numbers: what each action costs, what the packs include, and why there is no subscription. The AI features are in beta; packs start from €9, and the pricing page has the current ones.

What each action costs

  • A question or a small change ("how much payload is left?", "move the fridge next to the door"): about 1–3 credits.
  • Rearranging several items in one reply: a few more.
  • Design my van — a whole layout in one go: about 5–15 credits, shown before you confirm.
  • Rebuild from a photo: a normal reply with an image, so more than a one-line edit and less than Design my van.
  • Render photo: a fixed 6 credits, or 15 in HD. The same view, style and note again within a day is free.
  • Create with AI (one custom object from a description or photo): about 8 credits.

Each reply shows what it debited, and the meter at the top of the VanPlot AI panel shows your balance. As a rough guide, 100 credits is a Design my van run plus a few dozen small edits, or about 16 renders.

What's free, and what comes with the licence

  • Free trial: the full planner for 15 minutes of active editing, without AI. VanPlot AI, renders and Create with AI come with the licence.
  • Every licence (€36 / $39, paid once): 50 credits to start — existing licences included.
  • The planner itself: no credits, ever. The 3D editor, payload and axle checks, Build Sheet, cut lists and exports work without the assistant.

Credit packs need the licence too; they're an add-on to it, not a replacement.

Why one-time packs, not a plan

The licence covers the planner for life. The AI is metered on top of it, for three reasons:

  1. AI costs money every time it's used. Each reply is paid to the model provider. A one-time price for unlimited AI would either be very expensive or stop working, so you pay for what you use — and nothing else.
  2. Credits never expire, so a monthly plan would mean nothing. Van builds come in bursts: a busy design weekend, then weeks of cutting wood. A pack waits for you. There are four in the beta — 250 credits (from €9), 700 (+5% bonus), 1,500 (+10%) and 3,300 (+20%) — and a volume bonus on bigger packs is the norm for credit packs everywhere.
  3. Credits track the real cost. One credit is about $0.01 of AI usage, debited from the tokens the reply actually used and rounded up — not a flat "message" that's cheap for me on short questions and expensive for you on big ones. Renders are the exception, at a fixed price.

There is nothing to cancel. To buy, click the credit meter in the editor: the AI credits sheet has a slider with four stops and a card showing the credits, the bonus, the price and roughly how many renders or layout changes that buys. The 14-day full refund covers a first credit pack too.

Caps that protect your balance

There is a daily cap of 300 credits per account, reset at midnight UTC, so a long evening or a stuck loop can't empty your balance by accident. When you run out, the reply is replaced by a card offering Add credits — nothing is half-applied and you're not charged for work that didn't happen. If the AI service fails mid-reply, you pay only for what was used.

How to spend fewer credits

  • Be specific. "Put the 90-litre fridge behind the passenger seat" is one short reply; "make the kitchen better" can take several rounds.
  • Start a new chat for a new topic. A long conversation is re-read with every reply, so the hundredth message costs more than the first.
  • Ask for several changes at once when they belong together — one reply that moves three items is cheaper than three replies.
  • Don't render to check dimensions. Use the plan and the free calculators — payload, electrical, water tank — and render once the layout is settled.

How this compares with other AI design tools

Credits are the industry norm for AI design features. As I found them listed in October 2026: Homestyler sells AI packs from $9.99 for 200 credits, Planner 5D lists $19.99 for 100 credits, and SketchUp's AI render works from a monthly credit allowance. Those are general interior tools; I compare them against van-specific planners in the best AI tools for van conversion planning in 2026.

Start with the 50 included credits

Plan on the free trial first; the lifetime licence then includes 50 credits — enough for a Design my van run and a good batch of questions and changes on your own van, say a Fiat Ducato or a Ford Transit. The VanPlot AI guide explains every feature; the eight prompts that work are a good first session.

Questions

How much is one VanPlot AI credit worth?

About $0.01 of real AI cost. Each reply is debited from what it actually used, rounded up; renders are a fixed 6 credits.

Is there an AI subscription?

No. AI credits come in one-time packs from €9 — 250, 700, 1,500 or 3,300 credits, with a bonus of up to 20% on the bigger ones. The planner is still a one-time licence, and the packs need it.

Do credits expire?

Never. Pack credits and the 50 credits that come with the licence stay in your account until you use them; nothing resets at the end of a month. A daily cap of 300 credits keeps one session from emptying your balance by accident.

Do I need credits to use the planner?

No. Only the AI features use credits. The 3D planner, every check and every export work without them.

What happens when I run out?

The reply is replaced by a card offering a credit pack; nothing is half-applied. The planner keeps working as before.

Your van is waiting. Measure it, then plan it.

In sixty seconds you'll be dragging a bed into a Ducato. Free, in your browser.

I'm Vladimir. I'm planning my own conversion, and none of the tools I tried could tell me whether a layout would fit or what it would do to the rear axle, so I made this one. I work on it alone. If something's wrong or missing, write to me — the address goes to my inbox.
